Stafford resident Robert Thomas, Jr. was arrested for assault and battery after accosting a woman while he was under the influence and she was picking up money at an area ATM on Friday night.

Deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office were called to the Navy Federal Credit Union on Worth Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. on March 8, when a woman advised that while she was at an ATM she was inappropriately touched by a stranger.

Officials say that when Thomas was advised that she was calling the sheriff's office, he retreated to Outback Steakhouse nearby.

According to investigators, deputies found Thomas in an intoxicated state at the restaurant, where he instructed them that he could not remember the events leading up to when they arrived to arrest him.

Thomas was charged with assault and battery, as well as public intoxication. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail until sobering up.
